STANTON DREW CIRCLES AND COVE
9 miles from Downend and Bromley Heath Parish
Although this is the third largest complex of prehistoric standing stones in England, the three circles and three-stone ‘cove’ of Stanton Drew in Somerset are surprisingly little known. The Great Circle, 113 metres in diameter, is one of the largest stone circles in the country and has 26 surviving upright stones. Yet recent surveys have revealed that the circles and cove were just part of a much more elaborate and important ritual site than had previously been imagined.

Christ Church is the Parish Church of Downend in the Diocese of Bristol, serving a population of over 25,000 people including those living in the communities of Staple Hill, Blackhorse, Bromley Heath and part of Emersons Green.
The aim of all we do can be summarised in the invitation to learn to live the life. This vision is firmly rooted in the Bible’s teaching about what it means to be a Christian in the 21st century. Our membership reflects the variety of ages and backgrounds in the parish and includes an increasing number of young families and children. We trust that whoever comes to Christ Church will find a friendly welcome, together with a varied and helpful pattern of worship and a genuine concern for all. There are always opportunities to be involved in the life and work of the church, as time and energies allow.
